I haven't blogged on this domain for a while. I am a busy person. A busy creative person. I often stop and start projects, move on to a new project, revisit an old project. It's what I do, when I'm not at my day job. I'm a bit of a mad-scientist/inventor type, with some artist and maybe a little bit of writer mixed in. I'm a big ball of unchanneled creative energy. Sometimes that's frustrating, the start and stop, the inability to get a fledgling to soar -- but sometimes not, because I have a day job, a career, which means I don't starve when my projects pitter out. I don't need to be creative to feed myself, just to fulfill myself.

I have always been this way, and I was definitely this way back in 1995 when I purchased the domain name LittleBird.com. My inspiration at the time was a colleague who bought a domain name that I thought was really stupid. It had a hyphen in it, so you had to say "[word] hyphen [word] dot com" whenever you said it out loud. How dumb, right? But I asked him why he bought the name, and he said "I don't know ... to create something cool. To build a brand." And for some reason that made me think. If I were going to build a brand, what brand would that be? What business would I attach to it?

So I bought LittleBird.com. Straight-up. No hyphen. I set to work on an idea I had for a searchable database of all wedding registries. A master registry. And I worked hard at it for a while, and I met some big barriers, and then I went to grad school, and I dropped it for a while. But I still loved LittleBird.com as a URL. So I renewed it. And renewed it. And paid for it, and hosted it. Then when I needed a place to put a marketing blog, I used it for that.

Over the years, I've gotten tons of offers for LittleBird.com, some in the tens of thousands of dollars. Some of the offers are straight forward, some come with a pity story, some come from lawyers, and some come from people who write like hicks, but when I do the research I find they're attached to big multi-national corporations. Nice try, guys.

The thing is, I love LittleBird. I'm not done with LittleBird. This domain is the future home of all my hopes and dreams. Can you understand why I might not want to sell it? But there are people who say everything has a price. Every time I get an offer for this domain, I'm put in the position of having to think about what price would be *enough* for me to let go. So what is my price for LittleBird.com? The answer is in the title of this blog entry. I would be happy, truly happy to sell it to you for this price. Anything less would make me feel like I'd compromised, and I can't think of anything in this life worse than compromising on a dream.

Just thought I'd share some of the extra special April Fools Day cuteness I stumbled upon on LinkedIn this morning. In case you can't read the text, my "People You May Know" page is suddenly populated with a lot of famous names, from Ernest Hemingway to Robin Hood, who has his vocation listed as "Activist/Chief Fundraiser at Nottingham." I'm so gullible that I figured I must have friended someone with deep connections in the fiction community.
